The Popularity of K-Style Gutters

When shopping for new gutters, you probably have come across the term “K-style”. Of the many gutter profiles available in the market today, it is arguably the most popular of them all. Here’s why.

K-Style Gutters

Comparing K-Style and Half-Round Gutters

When it comes to gutter profiles, two come to mind: half-round and K-style. The former is essentially a pipe cut in half lengthwise and attached to the roofline. Its appearance adds to the inherent beauty of traditional home styles. The latter, meanwhile, is angular, with an aesthetic that is similar to crown molding when seen from the ground. One of the reasons why it is a popular choice among homeowners is because it works with just about any home and roofing style.

The Origins of the Gutter Profile’s Name

K-style gutters are called as such not because their appearance vaguely resembles the letter K or a person whose surname starts with K is behind the gutter profile. The Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors National Association (SMACNA) assigned letters to twelve profiles that were in use when angular gutters were still new. The S-shaped flourish that gives it a crown molding-like look is at the 11th spot, thus the name K-style.

What Makes K-Style Gutter Popular?

In addition to their aesthetic appeal, K-style gutters have a flat back side, which allows for ease of installation. They can also be attached directly to your fascia board, which means there will be less use of brackets to keep them in place, saving you more time and money. They are also available in a variety of capacities, making them ideal for homes situated in areas that receive significant amounts of rainfall.
